Mad Catz has revealed that combined sales of the PS4 and Xbox One consoles are now around 60 million units. This is up from the estimate that EA gave us late last month.
Mad Catz CFO, David McKeon, announced the new figure at the company’s Q3 earnings call earlier this week. The company also further estimates that sales for the PS4 and Xbox One will reach over 150 million units by the end of 2018.
EA estimated last month that sales for both consoles were at 55 million. This means the sales of the consoles have grown over the last couple of weeks if Mad Catz’s estimates are correct.
Officially, Sony announced that the PS4 has sold over 35.7 million units as of January 3rd, 2016. This figure could have grown by a few million units taking it up to 40 million.
Sadly, Microsoft has stopped reporting on Xbox One sales since 2014 so third party company estimates are the only way we can tell how well it is doing. It’s possible Microsoft’s console has sold close to or above 20 million units by now.
It’s good to know that both consoles are selling at a faster rate than the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles. Many analysts wrongfully predicted the newer consoles would fail against their predecessors.
