The Lord of the Rings universe is no stranger to video game adaptations, each varying greatly in its degree of quality. But with Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor it looks like fans are getting a game with strong potential to be great as well as adding to the mythos.

While we’ve seen gameplay footage before, this new story trailer gives us a glimpse into what the game is about as the fallen ranger you play as is tasked with assembling an army to face Sauron. Taking place between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, how Shadow of Mordor fits into that existing story structure and adds to it will be interesting.

We’re very focused on the PS4 and Xbox One.

If you want to find out, definitely do so on a next gen console.  The developer has stated that aspects of the game, specifically those that relate to the Nemesis system, will not make it to the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions. Design director Michael de Plater told IGN back in February that, “We’re very focused on the PS4 and Xbox One. We’re focusing on the next-gen platforms, and then going to do whatever we can to get as much as possible on current-gen.”

So if you like what you see here and you want to experience it in it’s full glory, you’ll have to go next gen to play Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. And it should be worth it as Shadow of Mordor is looking like the Lord of the Rings game we deserve and the one we need.
