Resistance 3 multiplayer was revealed for the first time at GDC, in San Francisco.  Resistance 3 will feature 16 player Human vs. Chimera deathmatch and objective based game modes, across a wide variety of locales across the globe.  Which is actually a bit of a step back for the franchise.  The previous games in the series host 40 and 60 player matches and was one of the first games to go “big” this generation.

As most multiplayer suites do these days, Resistance 3 will feature a robust and highly customizable leveling and progression system.  The game will feature custom loadouts that can be accessed through spending of points earned through gameplay.   Resistance 3 is designed around a class based system.  Your character will be able to choose between a number of support abilities.  For example, a bubble sheild can be used for protection your self and teammates, Ammo Beacon will help you keep your teammates stocked with killing supplies, or Radar Beacon which will enhance your team’s ability to see on radar.

But these aren’t the only abilities, there are also abilities that will help you against your enemies in a more first hand nature.  The Doppleganger will send a decoy out ahead of you ala Halo Reach and the Dash ability will allow you to more easily dodge an enemy attack.

Here’s the full rundown of the new abilites:

Bubble Shield: Provides a static energy shield

Ammo Beacon: Gives ammo to teammates

Radar Beacon: Enhances your team’s radar

Radar Decoy: Emits a dummy projection to throw off opponents

Lightning Shield: Temporary energy field that negates melee damage, stuns enemy

Doppleganger: Projects an image of your character nearby to distract enemies (see screenshot below). You’ll know you’re shooting a fake because the image will fizzle out when shot

Dash: Burst of speed to evade opponents

Alongside the details about the multiplayer in Resistance 3, it was announced that there will be a beta to hit PSN later this year.
