Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm might not be coming out in 2011, but it’s never to early start speculating on what will be included in the expected first expansion to Blizzard’s 2010 sequel.  Select media attendees have been invited to have a first look at Heart of the Swarm, and it’s rumored that Blizzard plans to take a different approach in the expansion.

Heart of the Swarm will be a campaign that focuses primarily on the story of Kerrigan and the Zerg.  New to the single player are rumored “RPG mechanics” and possibly new Zerg units.  What’s not going to be on display when the game is unveiled is the multiplayer in Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm, so no indications have been made if there will be new units added to this portion of the game as well.

In a leaked operations schedule which included a early rendering of an in-game cutscene for HOTS, Blizzard had already indicated that we shouldn’t expect StarCraft II until sometime in early 2012.
