Alice VR, a virtual-reality sci-fi puzzle adventure game from Carbon Studio has been Greenlit on Steam. The game promises to have puzzles inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and runs on Unreal Engine 4.

In an interview with VRready.it, Carbon Studio’s founder and art director, Aleksander Caban, said the team chose Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland because “Alice falls down the rabbit hole and moves into dreamland, just like the player putting on the VR headsets!”

“Alice falls down the rabbit hole…just like the player putting on the VR headsets!”

Alice VR, despite its name, will not require players to use VR headsets, but it will come ready for Oculus DK2 as well as Oculus Touch when it comes out. They are also working on an “HTC Vive version of the game” and say that Razer OSVR support will be in the future.

As with a lot of VR-based games, Alice VR will not be very long. Carbon Studio says the game will be around 3 hours long, but that it will take multiple playthroughs to experience the entire story. They are also focusing more on the experience of solving puzzles and exploring the world than on player reaction time or “how resistant to motion sickness players are.” As Carbon Studio’s project manager and social media specialist, Pawel Gajda, told VRready.it, “Playing Alice VR may be one of the first experiences [with VR] for some people, and we want to make this experience as comfortable as possible.”

When asked, Gajda would not confirm if Alice VR will be an Oculus Rift launch title, but they are set to come out fairly close together.

As for system requirements, all they’re saying for now is an “average gaming PC to run on high settings,” and that “the requirements will be higher if you want to play the game with Oculus Rift, but still lower than Oculus’ recommended specs.”

For reference, those Oculus recommended specs are an Intel i5-4590 equivalent CPU, 8GB+ RAM, NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD R9 290, 3x USB 3.0 ports plus 1x USB 2.0 port, compatible HDMI 1.3 video output, and Windows 7 SP1 64bit or newer.
