Captain America: Civil War is without a doubt going to be one of the biggest movies of 2016 in the box office when it releases in a little over two months, bringing together a star studded cast of characters. There has been one character that we’ve believed not to be in the movie at all, but it sounds like he may be showing up in some capacity.

Anthony Mackie first debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Sam Wilson, aka Falcon, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and has since shown up in The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man, but his biggest role since Winter Soldier will without a doubt be in Captain America: Civil War.

Mackie was recently a guest on BBC Radio 1’s podcast with Ali Plumb and got to talking about the movie. Courtesy of ComicBookMovie, we have a direct quote from that interview that appears to have revealed a possible major bombshell.

“Having seen the movie, it’s Marvel’s best movie so far. And I’m being honest – if a Marvel movie sucks, a movie in the Marvel universe, I’ll tell you it sucked. Winter Soldier and (the first) Iron Man are probably Marvel’s two best movies, and I feel like (Civil War) beats both of those movies. It’s really, really good. It’s because it’s more of an acting movie than an action movie. I feel like the story is very concise and interesting, and you get to see Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans and Scarlett Johannson and Mark Ruffalo and everybody just do really, really good acting. And then there’s action in it. I think it might be the first superhero movie that might be up for Best Picture.”

You can tell that Mackie is very excited for the movie, though the part about him thinking it might be the first superhero movie to be nominated for Best Picture is likely a stretch. However, the most intriguing part of this quote is the mention of Mark Ruffalo.

Ruffalo took over the role of Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk, starting in The Avengers, but has been said to not be in Civil War. He’s supposed to play a huge part in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, but Civil War was supposed to have him sidelined.

This could have just been a slip of the tongue by Mackie, but Ruffalo was seen multiple times around the set during filming. if he is in fact in the movie, the question is would he just be showing up as Banner or would he be the Hulk? You could say that maybe he’s just in a post-credits scene to tease Thor: Ragnarok, but for Mackie to throw in his name when talking about “really good acting,” you’d think it would have to be more.
