Disney has now revealed what the toy packaging for Star Wars: Rogue One will look like. Keeping to tradition, the movie will still feature a villainous character as the main focus of the marketing.
The announcement was made on the official Star Wars website. The packaging features TIE Fighters, AT-ATs, and the black stormtroopers that were seen in the first teaser trailer.
The packaging won’t just be used for toys only as it will be included for Rogue One collectibles and other merchandise that will follow. It’s expected that toys from the film won’t be released until the month of September. Disney is set to stage another Force Friday event much like last year.
Star Wars movies have been synonymous with using villain characters as the main focus for marketing and promotional material. The original trilogy featured Darth Vader, Episode 1 included Darth Maul while The Force Awakens blasted Kylo Ren everywhere. Episode 2 was the only movie that did not feature a villain. That movie’s toy packaging just used a lightsaber being held by a Jedi.
Star Wars: Rogue One will be released in cinemas on December 16th, 2016. It serves as a prequel to the original trilogy, although it is set after the events of Episode 3.
