Fallout 4 Survival Mode will hit PS4 and Xbox One this Friday according to Bethesda. The mode has been available on PC for some time now, offering players a chance to ramp up the difficulty and realism of the game. The consoles lagged behind though, with Bethesda wanting to be sure the extra difficulty option didn’t have any major issues pop up on PS4 and Xbox One. Those tests seem to be done though, and the update will be ready to go later this week.
Fallout 4 Survival Mode is built on four main pillars, according to Bethesda. These are Stretegy, Exploration, Resource Management, and Role Playing. By focusing in on these four things the developer has crafted a tough, challenging new mode for players to test themselves with. This means new status effects, new survival concerns, and a whole lot more.
Probably the biggest shifts to Fallout 4 in Survival Mode involve saving and fast travel. Auto-saves are gone, meaning if you die, you’ll probably lose a ton of time. Instead you can now only save when you sleep, making it so finding a bed to rest on is a chief concern, especially during tough missions.
Fast travel is gone as well, making it so you actually have to trek across the wasteland to get wherever you need to be. This might be frustrating, but it’s exactly the sort of experience that many players crave from RPG titles. And really, with how much effort went into crafting the Fallout 4 wasteland, it’ll be nice to truly appreciate its size and intricacies.
