Research tokens in Spider-Man PS4 are another one of the game’s currency items that allow you to purchase upgrades for your abilities as well as unlock new suits to use. These tokens are earned by completing specific missions in the game and are pretty easy to get if you know where to look.
These tokens are tied to Research Missions which can be found in the open world and are denoted by a purple microscope. Each District in Spider-Man features different research challenges. Assuming that you’ve already unlock the surveillance towers in a district, you’ll be able to see the location of the Research Missions on your map. Simply plot a course for the research mission and then seek out Harry Osborne’s Research Stations to begin a mission.
Each mission is different and they will provide you with different Research Token rewards. These missions are generally pretty easy to do and don’t take much time to complete. You’ll be able to see how many Research Tokens you have by looking on the main menu and then looking for the purple icon at the bottom left of the screen.
Some suits will require that you have research tokens to unlock them, you can use this guide to find out how many Research Tokens are required to unlock each suit. These Research Tokens will also be used to unlock Suit Mods and Gadget Upgrades as you progress.
