It appears that Capcom isn’t done with its efforts to revitalize the Mega Man IP. Just days after the series most recent entry, Mega Man 11, debuted on modern consoles, the company announced that the blue bomber will be getting a live-action Hollywood film adaptation in the future.

Specific details about the film, tentatively titled “Mega Man,” are unknown, but we do know that it will aim to appeal to a diverse audience, including both game players and action movie fans, in an adaption that “maintains the world of the Mega Man games, while incorporating the grand production and entertainment value that Hollywood movies are known for.”

On the other hand, we already know a good deal about the names and companies associated with the picture.

First off we know it will be distributed by 20th Century Fox, and written and directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, jointly known for movies such as “Paranormal Activity 4,” “Viral” and “Nerve.” Meanwhile, Chernin Entertainment, responsible for the Planet of the Apes series, will produce the movie with Masi Oka from “Heroes” and “Hawaii Five-0.”

Judging from those involved, the movie does have potential, but there’s something about movies based on video games — especially live-action ones — that generally causes them to end in disaster. Hopefully, this movie doesn’t follow that trend.
