It’s been one heck of a week for Respawn Entertainment and EA. Their new battle royale game Apex Legends has taken the gaming word by storm, and in just one day they’ve accumulated over 2.5 million users and approximately 600,000 concurrent players. Just a couple of days later they reached 10 million users and 1 million concurrent players, which is an impressive feat in an of itself. Today Respawn has revealed that they now have 25 million players playing the game as well as over 2 million concurrent players at peak in just one week’s time.
Respawn Entertainment’s CEO Vince Zampella made the announcement in a post where he stated that despite the strong start, they weren’t close to being done. “Since we launched Apex Legends last week on Monday we’ve seen the creation of an Apex Legends community that is excited, thriving, and full of great feedback and ideas. Our goal is to build this game with you, our community, so keep giving us your feedback because we really are listening. I can’t tell you everything we have planned, and we are looking at changes based on player feedback and experiences. However, I do want to call out a few things happening over the next couple of weeks.”
Those few things that Zempella speaks of are upcoming events, such as the Twitch Rivals Apex Legends Challenge, which will take place tomorrow, February 12, as well as next Tuesday, February 19. This event will include “48 of the biggest Twitch streamers” competing against each other for a $200,000 prize pool. Later this week, the company will also employ special Valentines Day themed-loot, presumably on Thursday, February 14, the holidays actual date. On top of this, they will also implement the first official Season of the game, which coincides with the release of the new Battle Pass which launches sometime in March.
Apex Legends is now available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC for free. You can check out the Week One Recap video here:
