According to Nintendo of America’s president, Reggie Fils-Aime, the Wii U will have the legs to run with the next-generation consoles. His belief is that the Wii U “is going to have a very long life, and it’s going to be very well supported”.

In an interview with the Seattle Times, when asked if the Wii U and it’s capabilities would last through the next console generation, Fils-Aime responded with the following:

“We think so. It’s based on having great graphics, it’s based on having a robust online execution. We believe that this system is going to have a very long life, and it’s going to be very well supported by third-party publishers.”

Further more, Fils-Aime was asked about direct competition with the “Xbox 720” and “PS3”, where the president explained:

“Once you talk about what that is, we can probably fend it off.”

Nintendo is awfully confident in their upcoming system. One that many in the gaming industry have already deemed to be not powerful enough to compete with next-generation consoles. The introduction of the Miiverse, TVii, high resolution graphics, and digital downloads will all be brand new experiences for the Nintendo faithful. Nintendo and retailers worldwide are already anticipating shortages of the console at launch, which will likely spur demand out of the gate.

The Wii U is scheduled for a mid-November release, if you can find one that is.
