Dragon Ball Z Is Getting A New Anime TV Series

by Damian Seeto

Dragon Ball Z is set to receive a brand new anime TV series for the first time in nearly 20 years.

Kotaku reports this new Dragon Ball Z anime TV series is called “Dragon Ball Super”. The last anime TV series based on the franchise was Dragon Ball GT. Those episodes were made originally back in Japan in 1997. It’s been a long time since Dragon Ball fans have had new material.

It sounds like Dragon Ball Super will be a continuation of Dragon Ball Z. The new anime TV series is being written by Akira Toriyama. Toriyama was not involved with the story of Dragon Ball GT.

Dragon Ball Super will also be a sequel series of sorts to Dragon Ball Z. The story will pick up right after Goku defeats Majin Buu. This means the new series may not consider GT to exist. This is what they have done with the recent animated movies. All of them take place after Dragon Ball Z ended and before GT starts.

According to the report, Dragon Ball Super is set to debut in Japan as soon as July. Western Dragon Ball Z fans may not receive it yet, since the English voice overs haven’t been recorded.
