Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One is the official name of the long rumored Star Wars spin-off movie. Given that it is given the primary name of ‘Star Wars Anthology’ which is the official name of the group of spin-off movies planned.

Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California has given way to quite a bit of news for Star Wars fans from the new trailer for The Force Awakens, to the reboot of Star Wars Battlefront. The Star Wars Twitter page announced the synopsis for Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One just as the panel  titled ‘Conversations with Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank’ was kicking off. Coincidentally, Josh Trank was apparently too ill to make the panel so we don’t know what he is working on quite yet. The synopsis went on to reveal the following;

“A band of resistance fighters unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans in Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One #RogueOne.”

During the panel Gareth Edwards went on to reveal that the title be set between Star Wars Episodes III & IV, but closer to Episode IV of course. He also went on to mention that there will not be any Jedi’s in Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One and the movie will be pretty grounded stating the following;

“It comes down to a group of individuals that don’t have magic powers, that have to bring hope to the galaxy.”

Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One was penned by Gary Whitta (After Earth, TellTale Games’ The Walking Dead, The Book Of Eli) and Chris Weitz (Cinderella (2015)). The only announced cast member is Felcity Jones (The Theory Of Everything, The Amazing Spider-Man 2) as ‘rebel soldier’ who is set to play the female lead. Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One is set to release on December 16th, 2016.
