After days of intense attention and speculation, the legal chapter has closed on actor Alan Ritchson’s recent roadside altercation. According to CinemaBlend, authorities have now confirmed that no criminal charges will be filed. It turns out Ritchson himself declined to press charges, bringing the incident to a definitive end.
For a few days there, the internet was abuzz with a viral video that looked pretty wild. Most of us are used to seeing Ritchson deliver some serious action on Prime Video, but this clip showed him in a real-life fight with another man on the side of the road. While that initial footage certainly made it seem like Ritchson might be facing some legal trouble, it appears that was never really on the table. Instead, the option to press charges was actually open to Ritchson, and he’s decided to simply put the whole thing behind him.
The Brentwood, Tennessee, Police Department Captain Steven Pepin released a statement confirming the outcome. “Mr. Ritchson’s actions were found to be in self-defense. Although a potential reckless endangerment charge was considered, Mr. Ritchson declined to pursue charges. The case is now closed, and no further action will be taken,” Pepin wrote. This is a pretty clear-cut statement, and it definitely sheds new light on everything we thought we knew.
The story flipped the moment more footage surfaced
The initial viral video showed what looked like a pretty one-sided beatdown. Ritchson, identified as the man on the motorcycle, was seen striking another man, Ronnie Taylor, multiple times before riding off. I’ve gotta say, watching it, you might’ve thought Ritchson was the aggressor. However, even early on, there were whispers that the part of the altercation before the video started told a very different story, suggesting Taylor might have been the one to actually instigate the physical contact.
Those whispers turned out to be true. A second video, apparently from a body camera worn by Ritchson, completely flips the script. This new footage shows Taylor stepping directly in front of Ritchson’s motorcycle, forcing Ritchson to slam on his brakes and fall. After Ritchson hit the ground, a verbal exchange began. While Ritchson does push Taylor at one point, he then tries to walk away before things escalate further. This new perspective makes it clear Ritchson was reacting to an initial provocation.
Taylor himself later spoke out and even admitted to pushing Ritchson a couple of times. He claimed he only did so because Ritchson was coming towards him on his bike, but he did concede that Ritchson “kicked the ****” out of him. With the police statement and the bodycam footage, it seems the full picture is finally out there.
During the entire investigation, Ritchson remained silent, only posting a quote from Napoleon about not interrupting your enemy while they are making mistakes. Now that the official investigation is closed, perhaps Ritchson will share his full side of the story, or maybe this whole incident will just fade into the background. Either way, fans can now simply focus on his upcoming projects, like the Reacher spinoff and the new season of the series, without this cloud hanging over things.
While the criminal aspect is over, it’s worth remembering that the possibility of civil litigation still exists if either man feels they have a case.
