Erin Moriarty’s Jimmy Kimmel appearance went viral for all the wrong reasons, but the truth behind the clip is more complicated than the posts suggest

A clip taken too far

A clip suggesting that The Boys star Erin Moriarty was under the influence during her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! went viral this week, but there is no actual proof to support those claims. Moriarty plays Annie January, also known as Starlight, on Prime Video’s The Boys. She visited Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, March 25, to promote the show’s upcoming fifth and final season.

According to BroBible, a tweet from a user going by @haworthes on X, which got 437,000 views, sparked the viral moment. It read, “Erin Moriarty drunk asf on Jimmy Kimmel rn and I’m in tears she’s a ki man,” with a follow-up video post adding, “she too lit LMAOOOO she’s funny man.”

Despite how widely that tweet spread, there is nothing concrete to suggest Moriarty was actually intoxicated or under the influence of any substances during the interview. These claims cannot be taken as fact without real evidence.

The emotional weight of ending a career-defining role makes her reaction more than understandable

This appearance comes at an emotional time for Moriarty. The Boys is one of Prime Video’s biggest series, and the fifth season will be its last. Starlight has been a breakout role for her, so it is understandable that she is deeply invested in both the character and the show. Kimmel, who has made headlines recently for taking sharp digs at political figures on his show, kept the interview focused on her work.

When filming for the final season wrapped last July, she shared on Instagram that “the tears have begun.” She added that she had said goodbye to most of her “work family” that day and would be ready to smile about it when she was truly ready. Kimmel has built a reputation for delivering bold political messages to international audiences, but on this occasion, the spotlight was firmly on Moriarty and her farewell to the show.

Given how much the show has meant to her, it is not hard to imagine that she might feel emotional or overwhelmed during press events. It is a significant moment for any actor to say goodbye to a role that has defined a large part of their career. The fifth and final season of The Boys is set to premiere on Prime Video on Wednesday, April 8. Two episodes will drop on launch day, before the show shifts to weekly releases through the May 20 finale.
