God of War: How to Access Combat Trials of Muspelheim

In the new God of War there are multiple realms for Kratos and Atreus to discover.  Muspelheim is the realm of fire that is the home of combat trials that you can play to earn powerful gear for Kratos and Atreus.  This realm will only be available if you’ve completed the language cipher for the realm and this is done by exploring and finding treasure chests.

To get access to Muspelheim before you’ve finished the game, you’ll need to do a little bit of exploring to find these Muspelheim Ciphers.  Once you’ve collected the four ciphers you’ll now be granted access to the realm which allows you to tackle different increasingly difficulty combat challenges.

By the time you’ve gotten Atreus’ second arrow ability and found Mimir, you’ve been everywhere that contains these ciphers.  We’ll give you a hint on the final two.  One is located at the top of the mountain after you’ve met Mimir for the first time.  The second is in the passage that’s blocked by Red Sap next to the Witch’s home in Freya’s Cave.

Once you have the cipher you can freely travel to Muspelheim from the World Tree.  Once you get to Muspelheim, you can follow the linear path through different challenges and collect the rewards for completing them.

As you perform the Muspelheim Challenge Trials you’ll encounter cross which you can interact with to start the combat sequences.  They will have different modifiers and things that must be done to complete the challenge.  This can be defeating a certain amount of enemies within a certain amount of time, staying alive for a set amount of time, or others.   Each cross that you encounter will give you multiple levels of challenges to complete.  There are normal and hard variants, after which complete, will reward you with a treasure chest that can contain hard to find materials for upgrade armor and weapons, or other items to help you on your journey.
