Imagine losing more than a month of progress in one of the toughest games out there in just seconds. That’s exactly what happened to many Escape From Tarkov players recently when a wave of account resets hit the community without warning.
According to Dual Shockers, players flooded social media and message boards with reports of completely wiped accounts. Streamers were among the hardest hit, losing weeks or even months of game progress in what turned into a Boxing Day disaster for the community.
Most players found out about the problem when they opened the game and saw their accounts had been reset to zero. Instead of their usual profiles, they got a screen asking them to pick a faction, choose a nickname, and create a new character from scratch.
The security flaw puts everyone at risk
The problem comes from a weakness in the game’s website that lets hackers reset accounts and change account details. The scary part is that even players who had two-factor authentication turned on weren’t safe from the attacks.
Making things worse, changing your password doesn’t kick the hacker out of your account. The password change alone won’t stop them from causing more damage to your game profile. This isn’t the first time viral online chaos has sparked warnings from experts about digital safety.
Right now, the only way to protect your account is to contact BattleState Games support and ask them to lock it. After they lock it, you can log back in with new login details and hopefully keep your account safe.
Streamers have been the main targets in this attack wave. Well-known players like DrLupo lost all their account progress. Another streamer named BAXBEAST got hit especially hard by the hack. The gaming community has seen creators face mysterious nightmares recently, though this security breach is far more concrete.
BAXBEAST posted on X that he lost a level 53 account that was almost at Prestige 5. He had also already finished the For Humanity ending, which takes a huge amount of time to complete in the game’s main story. The amount of lost progress has upset many players in the community.
LogicalSolutions, a creator who makes Escape From Tarkov guides and resources, also had his account wiped. He confirmed that BattleState Games knows about the problem and is working on it. However, nobody knows yet if the lost progress can be brought back. Escape From Tarkov is available on Steam and through the BattleState Games website.
