A TikTok video from The Daniel’s Crew has drawn over two million views after the creator shared what she says was an argument with an Amazon Alexa device in her daughter’s room first thing in the morning. In the overlay text, she asks viewers to listen to the whole video and tell her if she’s “CRAZY.”
In the video, the creator walks up to an Alexa device on a side table that is playing music, telling viewers, “This is happening way too often, so I’m going to check.” When she asks Alexa when the music started, the device responds that it “started at 2:11 PM today.” She points out that it is “early in the morning” and asks whether the music had been playing all night, to which Alexa replies, “It’s been rolling since 2:11 PM. Not through the night.”
As the creator presses for clarification, asking whether her daughter had started the music the day before and left it on overnight, Alexa’s answers change. The device first says the music played from 2:11 PM to 10:14 PM, “not through the night.” When challenged again about it being morning, it insists the music was stopped the previous day at 2:14 PM, then claims no music was playing when she walked in.
When challenged, Alexa pushed back harder
The creator argues that the music had been playing when she walked in. Alexa responds that it understands why it “seemed like it was playing,” but says the log shows her daughter’s device was paused around 2:14 PM. When asked for the time, Alexa says it is 7:00 AM, adding, “Morning confusion happens to the best of us.”
The creator’s viewers had a strong response to the exchange. A few users pointed to a change in the device’s tone, with one claiming it sounded “like it was annoyed with you.” Another wrote, “OH H-LL NAH SHE GOTTA GO,” while a third suggested she stop arguing with a robot and unplug it.
Earlier this year, TechRadar reported on a similar exchange shared on Reddit following the rollout of the upgraded Alexa+ voice assistant. In that case, the user said Alexa told them that “sometimes we all have selective memory” when challenged over a smart lamp being switched on.
Later in The Daniel’s Crew’s video, the creator tells Alexa she feels “crazy.” The device responds that she is “not crazy at all,” adding that tech can be confusing when what people experience doesn’t match the log.
Attack of the Fanboy was unable to independently verify Amazon’s side of the story, as this account originates solely from The Daniel’s Crew’s TikTok video.
