A TikTok user who posts as Tori (@torihudsonn_) says she finally found the keys to her bedroom doors. They were sitting on top of a door frame under a coat of white paint. The clip went up and has since drawn over five million views.
In the video, someone uses a small black blade to scrape at the top of the frame and pries two painted-over keys loose. On-screen text says the “long lost keys” were “painted over by the apartment owners before we moved in.” Tori wrote in the caption that “we were looking for these for so long.”
The apartment owners haven’t responded publicly, and her account hasn’t been independently verified. The keys are thin metal pieces with a loop at one end. Most of the replies were about the keys themselves, with comparisons to a horror movie and to canned meat.
Viewers compare the keys to Coraline
Many commenters brought up Coraline and warned Tori not to open any small doors she finds in the apartment. Others mentioned Locke & Key instead, and a few argued about which one the clip resembled more.
“On some coraline shi why are they shaped like that omg,” one viewer wrote. Another told her, “If you find a small door DONT open it.” A third warned that she “might get a visit from the other mother.” One commenter disagreed with the comparison and wrote, “This is not coraline this is lock and key!!”
Commenters compare the keys to Spam can openers
A large group of viewers wrote that the keys looked like the twist keys used to open cans of Spam and corned beef. Others guessed they were paint can openers. One user replied with a photo of a Spam can with its key attached.
“Baby those ain’t keys,” one viewer wrote. Another commenter, who said they were a locksmith, wrote that the keys were “for spam tins not locks.” Other viewers said the keys were for door knobs “that have the little holes on the outside.”
Tori replied in the comments that “These are not paint can openers. These are specifically made for our doors.” In a follow-up video, she uses one of the keys to lock and unlock a door.
Dozens of other replies simply said “landlord special.” Several renters wrote that they had found keys on top of their own door frames, and one said they had lived in their place for almost two years before spotting theirs. Paint jobs in rentals have gone viral on TikTok before, including one landlord repainting only half a staircase.
