All Sega Genesis Classics are Coming to Switch

For as long as home consoles have existed, the console wars have raged in one form or another. It’s all been Sony vs. Microsoft for the last decade or so, but for many older gamers the definitive console wars will always be those waged between Nintendo’s and Sega’s devices. For the first half of the 90’s, playgrounds were full of Mario vs. Sonic and whether “blast processing” actually meant anything. As history illustrates, Nintendo eventually won, and the company even owns a portion of its one time rival. Sonic makes regular appearances on Nintendo’s systems these days, and now all his buddies are joining him via Sega Genesis Classics: a massive collection of all the games that made the Genesis such a fierce contender back in the day.

Sega Genesis Classics includes over 50 games from the Super Nintendo’s main rival, including Altered Beast, Comix Zone, Phantasy Star 2, and the Golden Axe games just to name a few. It actually launched for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 earlier this year, so the Switch is actually the last to get it. Sega Genesis Classics is also available on Steam and has been for a number of years now. That said, it’s still incredible to see a collection like this on a Nintendo system, especially one as portable as the Switch.

No specific release date has been announced yet, but fans can expect to see Sega Genesis Classics hit the Switch sometime this winter.
