Nintendo revealed earlier this year that the 3DS’ Animal Crossing: New Leaf would be getting amiibo support later this year, though we now know the official date when the update will go live. Nintendo revealed during their 3DS-centered Nintendo Direct that amiibo support would be available on December 2nd.
Interestingly enough, Nintendo will also be releasing a new physical version of Animal Crossing: New Leaf that adds “Welcome Amiibo” to the title, which comes with the amiibo support pre-installed. However, the amiibo update will be free to download.
As for what the amiibo actually do, you just tap the figure or card to your 3DS and that villager will appear in your town. The following are the supported cards and figures:
- Animal Crossing Cards — Series 1
- Animal Crossing Cards — Series 2
- Animal Crossing Cards — Series 3
- Animal Crossing Cards — Series 4
- Blathers
- Celeste
- Cyrus
- Digby
- Isabelle — Summer Outfit
- Isabelle — Winter Outfit
- Kapp’n
- Kicks
- K.K.
- Lottie
- Mabel
- Reese
- Resetti
- Rover
- Timmy & Tommy
- Tom Nook
While we still haven’t gotten any concrete details on it from Nintendo, the company is still slated to release an Animal Crossing mobile game this year on iOS and Android.
