The Legendary Pokémon Mewtwo is set to reappear in Pokémon GO Raid Battles soon, but there’s a twist. This time, the Legendary Psychic-type will be taking on a new appearance, one reminiscent of a look it had in the first Pokémon movie.
Niantic recently announced that players will soon be able to encounter Armored Mewtwo in Raid Battles. Armored Mewtwo will be wearing the set of armor it wore while under Giovanni’s control in the franchise’s first movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back. The Legendary Pokémon’s new appearance in the game is meant to coincide with the release of Mewtwo Strikes Back EVOLUTION, a CGI remake of the first movie, which is set to release in Japan on July 12.
Players will be able to encounter Armored Mewtwo in five-star Raid Battles from July 10 at 1:00pm PST/4:00pm EST to July 31 at 1:00pm PST/4:00pm EST. Additionally, some Mewtwo-related clothing items will become available to purchase in the in-game Style Shop.
Despite its different aesthetics, Armored Mewtwo is still a Psychic-type, just like regular Mewtwo, so make sure to take that into account by combatting it with some strong Dark, Ghost, and Bug-types if you plan to take it on in Raid Battles later this month.
