An animated Assassin’s Creed series is in the works from Adi Shankar, the Executive Producer of Netflix’s Castlevania series. Shankar made the announcement on his Facebook where he talked about his excitement regarding the project.

“I’m happy to let you guys know that I’ve selected my next project!” he said. “I played the first edition of Assassin’s Creed the year I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dream. At that moment I knew absolutely no one in the industry and could never have imagined that one day Ubisoft would ask me to take the world of Assassin’s Creed and create an original story set in it as an anime series. If anyone tells you not to follow your passion in life they are wrong.”

No other details were given such as a release window or setting for the series. Shankar did mention he was tasked with creating an original story in the universe, so it won’t be rehashing old events that we already know about.

Aymar Azaizia, Head of Content for the Assassin’s Creed brand, did a Reddit AMA a few months ago in March where he mentioned plans of a television series. This anime from Shankar is likely what he was referring to. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot even said in November that the company was in talks to create a series with Netflix, though they did not disclose what the series would be. Hopefully this show will be better than the movie starring Michael Fassbender, which received negative reviews from fans and critic alike.

For those who can’t wait for more Assassin’s Creed content, the next game in the franchise is set to release on October 27, 2017. Assassin’s Creed Origins takes players back to the earliest time period the series has gone, ancient Egypt.
