Assassin’s Creed Movie Gets New Release Date

by Dean James

There is quite a bit of excitement behind 20th Century Fox and Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie. While it has been incredibly hard for most video game based movies to find success in the box office, there is hope with such close interactions between the studios, as well as having Michael Fassbender on board. The movie has seen its release date shifted around over and over yet, making some worry that it may forever be in development hell. However, after the latest release date change from August 2015, 20th Century Fox has officially given the Assassin’s Creed movie a release date again for about a year and a half later.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Fox confirmed release dates for a movie based on Gambit and a different release date for the next Planet of the Apes, while also revealing that Assassin’s Creed is set to be released in theaters on December 21, 2016. This is an intriguing decision, as it has now been moved away from the crowded summer period and instead into the little bit quieter Christmas time period.

This new release date isn’t really a concern, as this time of year has become really strong for the box office, most recently behind movies like the latest Hunger Games movies and The Hobbit trilogy. As of right now, the only major competition it has that month is the release of what is supposed to be the first Star Wars spinoff film the week before. Regardless, with Michael Fassbender starring and working behind the scenes, this is certainly one movie to look forward to when it releases December 21, 2016.
