Gearbox Software and 2K have announced that Battleborn is offering a free trial where players can download the game for free, get unlimited access to maps and modes, with no level caps or planned end date for the promotion. Â The kicker is that during the free trial those who do pick up and play the game will get access to a rotation of six playable characters instead of the full roster.
Those who enjoy Battleborn will be able to upgrade the experience from the free version to something more robust. Â When upgrading to the full base game, you will get access to all 25 characters, the eight story missions and Prologue, as well as access to private matches.
Players can also purchase the Season Pass content for the game through the marketplace. Â This includes more Story missions and the remaining roster of the full 30 heroes. Â Gearbox is also offering items a la carte. Â Through the marketplace players can now purchase heroes, skins and taunts, gear packs, xp and loot boosters, loadout slots, Story Operations, and other items.
The promotion started today and the game is currently available to download on Xbox One and Steam. Â The game is also available in the Americas for PlayStation 4 owners, but Europe and Japan will see a release on June 13th.
Battleborn has been out for a little over a year, but was overshadowed by Blizzard’s Overwatch at launch. Â Going free to play will most certainly bolster this community for the time being. Â Gearbox says that they’ve implemented new matchmaking queues for new players, as to not match those who’ve been playing the game for a while with those that are new to it.
What’s in it for those that did purchase the game you ask? Â They’ll get what Gearbox is calling “Founder’s Bonus Content” which includes in-game currency, a unique title, gold skins, loot packs, and a number of guaranteed high-end gear pieces for their characters. Â Anyone who owned or played Battleborn prior to June 6th will get access to this content.
