Despite rumors that a single player campaign was scrapped for Black Ops 4 due to development trouble at Treyarch, apparently the developer was never planning on making one for this game.

According to Yale Miller of Treyarch, “We were never planning on making a tradtional campaign,” the Senior Producer at the developer told us in an interview.

“As soon as Black Ops 3 was done, we knew we wanted to do something different,” says Miller.  That something different is the new Blackout Battle Royale mode that will launch with the game.

“It’s really about making sure that we’re bringing something new to the table that we think.. not just our fans, but that we want to play and play for, not just the first month after launch, but for years to come.”

Details on this exciting Battle Royale mode for Call of Duty are slim and the reveal was somewhat mysterious.  We’ll likely be hearing more about the mode at E3 2018.
