Blizzard has announced the first expansion for Diablo III, it shall be known as Diablo III: Reaper of Souls.  The expansion will introduce a new Crusader class to the mix, bringing class count to six in all.  Base level cap will be increased to 70, and the Reaper of Souls Expansion will see a new act added to the game.

Blizzard relayed the news during their Gamescom 2013 press conference.  The new content is said to revolve around Malthael, the angel of death, and his seizing control of the black soulstone (and Diablo’s Soul).  The expansion will bring one full act to Diablo III players.

Reaper of Souls is promised to be darker than vanilla Diablo III, including new monsters, and areas.   The expansion will also ship with refinements to the Diablo III loot system.  The new logic in place for Loot drops in the new system will make it more likely that the items you pick up will be useful for your class.   Blizzard is looking to cut down on overall clutter of invaluable loot, so there will be less overall drops.
