Borderlands 3 PC players have one more thing to be disappointed about.

Epic Games has been gobbling up exclusive PC games to launch on the Epic Games Store for months now. Their most recent, and arguably biggest one to date has been Borderlands 3. While the game will launch on other platforms like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when it releases in September, Epic Games Store will be the only place where PC players can play Borderlands 3 in 2019.

The feature exists on the platform but won’t be available for Borderlands 3

Unfortunately, if you’re looking to preload Borderlands 3 on the Epic Games Store, this feature will not be available on the storefront for the launch of the game. Epic boss Tim Sweeney revealed recently on Twitter. “We won’t have support for preloading in time Borderlands release timeframe,” said the developer.

Though preloading on the Epic Games Store isn’t a new thing, Sweeney says the company isn’t certain that their tech will be sufficient for Borderlands 3.  “It’s complicated,” says Sweeney when asked about preloading.  “We’ve released support for file preloading which is sufficient for some games, but we aren’t certain it’s up to the demands of a blockbuster like Borderlands.”

Can Epic Games shift public perception of Epic Games Store?

The barebones Epic Games Store does appear to be a work-in-progress for Epic Games, but progress isn’t moving quickly enough to offset the vitriol developers are receiving for inking exclusive deals with the company.  In the last year, Epic has likely spent cash and offered up better payouts to developers to entice them to come to Epic Games Store.  Unfortunately, the platform itself has improved very little and certainly feels lacking when compared to any of the major game launcher/storefronts on the market today.

We’ll have to wait and see if this strategy pays off for Epic Games in the long run.  They’ve taken the incredible boon of popularity with Fortnite and sunk that profit into purchasing exclusives for their storefront.  Now, they just need to make people happy to purchase things from them, but that certainly feels a long way off.

Borderlands 3 releases on September 13th, 2019 on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
