One of the most interesting titles that Square Enix announced at the Nintendo Switch presentation was a new game from the same team responible of the Bravely Default series for Nintendo 3DS, with the working title “Project Octopath Traveler.”
From what we can see in the trailer, the game will be a classic turn-based RPG that brings back the pixelated aesthetic of the productions for Super Nintendo, like Final Fantasy VI, mixing it with a 3D structure that gives the backgrounds different levels of depth. It’s this combination of retro visuals with modern technology what gives the game an absolutely unique and gorgeous look, different to any other game in the market at the moment.
While the trailer is not very long, it’s enough to give us an idea of the world of the game and the gameplay. We get a glimpse at the world map with different cities and locations surrounding the “Water Dragon Bay”, and we see the characters stylized in super-deformed fashion exploring cities and dungeons. We also get to see a battle with a party of four main characters fighting a knight.
Square Enix has not shared a specific release date for the game, but we can expect to see it released during 2017 at least in Japan.
