Indie games have delivered some of the biggest hits, and best experiences in gaming over the last few years. While AAA games are still great, sometimes you want something a little smaller and more personal. This is exactly what gamers got in 2012 with the release of FTL. Now the makers of that classic roguelike are back with a new take on turn-based strategy with Into the Breach.

Into the Breach was announced today with a new trailer that is full of gameplay and info about the game. You can check it out below to get an idea of what is going on in this new strategy game. On the surface it might look a lot like other turn-based strategy exeperiences, but there is definitely more under the surface.

For one, it’s from the makers of the unarguably excellent FTL, which took roguelikes to a whole new level for millions of players. Further though, there’s some definite design differences shown here, not only in the visuals, but in the gameplay as well. And that final dialogue box should definitely get players excited, hinting at a time travel mechanic that could be very interesting in this genre.

The developer describes the story as “The remnants of human civilization are threatened by gigantic creatures breeding beneath the earth. You must control powerful mechs from the future to hold off this alien threat. Each attempt to save the world presents a new randomly generated challenge in this turn-based strategy game.”

Into the Breach has no set release date yet, so don’t get too excited for a while. Still, with this much talent behind the scenes, the game should definitely be on your radar. Even the composer of FTL’s stellar soundtrack is returning, so get ready to zone out for hours on end once again when Into the Breach hits PC, Mac, and Linux.
