Spyro the Dragon made his debut over 15 years ago, but he has proven he is still a hit with fans after becoming the centre of an online petition entitled “Bring Back Spyro”.

The campaign is fronted by Facebook page Spyro HD collection, who want the character brought back to Sony. At the time of writing, this petition had reached only a quarter of its 1k target with fans being sceptical if such a campaign would be an effective way to get the character back to the company.

Spyro’s latest appearance was in Activision’s Skylanders series, a decision which upset fans mainly due to his redesigned appearance and how different the game was to the original.

Spyro and his Playstation counterpart Crash Bandicoot were rumoured to appear in Playstation All Stars: Battle Royale back in 2012, but neither character made a comeback. Last year, rumours of a new Spyro project, including concept art, surfaced online but it was later cancelled due to reasons unknown. Rumours of a Crash Bandicoot return at 2016’s E3 are circulating online, and this makes fans hopeful that their favourite purple dragon could be on the cards for a return also.

What do you think? Would Spyro make a good addition to modern day gaming, or should the series be left alone? Let us know in the comments!
