All features of Call of Duty: Elite will be free when Black Ops 2 launches this November. It looks like the company has had a change of heart in the way they are approaching the downloadable content business, and will be offering a season pass that will feature four Map Packs.
“We’ve learned a lot in our first year of Call of Duty Elite, and we’re very proud that we over delivered on our commitment of playable content to our premium members,” said Activision Publishing CEO, Eric Hirshberg. “What we have realized is that several of the Call of Duty Elite services which are currently only available to our premium members for Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3 are things that would further unite, engage and delight our player community. So we are going to make them free for Call of Duty: Black Ops II.”
Instead of the confusing monthly content drops and map pack releases for “non-elite” members, the Black Ops 2 Season pass will return to a similar format as previously used. The only difference appears to be that Activision will allow players to bundle all of the maps into the Season Pass.
It doesn’t look like Activision is trimming down the Call of Duty Elite platform either. Black Ops 2 will still support the tracking of vital in-game statisitics, clan management tools, Call of Duty Elite TV, and other features for the free online service.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will arrive on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC this November.
