Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare Dev Wants Game To Start New Sub-Franchise

The Call of Duty series will be taking things in a very different direction as it launches into outer space with the release of Infinite Warfare, which is either a very good or bad thing depending on who you ask. However, it doesn’t look like this is intended to just be a one-off before returning to more standard warfare.

Developer Infinity Ward’s Taylor Kurosaki recently spoke with Polygon about the game, saying that “We want to establish our own new sub-franchise. Our own new branch of the Call of Duty tree. What we are developing here could certainly support multiple games. We’re trying to develop a very rich world that we’re not even close to exhausting.”

If you’ve been keeping up with the Call Of Duty series at all, then you know that sub-franchises within the series are nothing new. Treyarch found lots of success by developing three different Black Ops games, and Infinity Ward themselves did the same thing with their Modern Warfare series.

However, the buzz leading up to those sub-franchises’ releases were not anywhere near as divisive as what we’re dealing with in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Will the game be good enough to silence the naysayers and get the old fans back, or will the game fall in the way of Ghosts and cause Infinity Ward to have to try something else once again?

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on November 4th.
