It’s been pretty clear for a while that the new Call of Duty would do away with the conventional “Season Pass” a la carte style content when it comes to DLC. What was going to replace it has been anyone’s guess. There have been rumors of a supply drop system, and others, but it turns out that the game will feature a Battle Pass.
There will be a free and premium Battle Pass in Modern Warfare
The exact specifics of the Battle Pass haven’t been revealed, but in a blog post Activision has detailed the post-launch content for Modern Warfare. Activision has made clear that they are not using a Loot Box system for Modern Warfare. Instead it will be a Battle Pass system.
They’ve also made it clear that all of the gameplay content like weapons and attachments will be earned through playing the game. The Battle Pass will let people earn non-game changing items such as cosmetics. The new Battle Pass for Call of Duty sounds very similar to what Fortnite does, allowing players to earn COD Points by playing the game and it sounds like you will purchase the Modern Warfare Battle Pass in each season of the game. Players will not need to purchase the Battle Pass to participate and earn rewards though.  There will be a premium and a free version of the Battle Pass.
The MW Battle Pass will not be in the game at launch
The release of Modern Warfare is just around the corner, but Call of Duty players shouldn’t expect this new Battle Pass system to be in the game on day one. However the announcement does say it will arrive sometime in 2019.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to release on October 25th, 2019 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
