Call of Duty: WWII tops the United Kingdom charts in the last week of 2017. The shooter ends the year with an impressive run of nine weeks sitting at number one of the best-sellers list. That’s the same amount of weeks that Modern Warfare 2 managed to spend at the top of the charts, and only two weeks away from matching Black Ops 3 as the entry with the best chart run of the whole series. The rest of the charts look pretty similar to previous weeks, as there haven’t been any relevant game releases in the last few days of the year.
However, the data from GfK does reveal some interesting trends of the year as a whole. For starters, physical sales have remain largely stable compared to 2016, with a minimal decrease of 0.4%. Game revenue does have risen 2.1%, most definitely due to the higher price of the titles for Nintendo Switch compared to those for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
While Call of Duty: WWII was the best selling game over Christmas, the honor of being the best-selling game of 2017 goes to FIFA 18, which was released five weeks earlier than WWII. Without taking digital sales into account, physical sales for FIFA 18 were down 16.2% from last year’s FIFA 17. Other EA titles also didn’t have a great performance, particularly Star Wars Battlefront 2, which is down 51% from the physical sales of last year’s Battlefield 1, and 49% from the previous Star Wars Battlefront.
