Following all of the mystery surrounding Bandai Namco’s Code Vein, the company has finally released an announcement trailer for the game. The trailer gives an overview of the game’s plot, while also showing off a decent amount of cinematics and gameplay. You can check it out at the bottom of this post.
Code Vein definitely blends some interesting styles, as it has an anime vampire look that’s mixed with the darkness of the Dark Souls series. Of course, the anime elements will ensure that the game is a lot sillier in parts, but at the moment it’s looking like something that could be worth checking out. For those who don’t know what the game’s all about, the following is a plot synopsis:
“In the not too distant future, a mysterious disaster has brought collapse to the world as we know it. Towering skyscrapers, once symbols of prosperity, are now lifeless graves of humanity’s past pierced by the Thorns of Judgment. At the center of the destruction lies a hidden society of Revenants called Vein. This final stronghold is where the remaining few fight to survive, blessed with Gifts of power in exchange for their memories and a thirst for blood. Give into the bloodlust fully and risk becoming one of the Lost, fiendish ghouls devoid of any remaining humanity.”
The comparisons to Dark Souls were brought on by Bandai Namco themselves, teasing the game with a tagline that reads “Prepare to Dine.” This was an obvious play on the Dark Souls series’ “Prepare to Die” tagline. Seeing as the Dark Souls series officially came to an end last year, this could be their way of keeping some of that fantastic franchise’s magic alive. Code Vein doesn’t have a concrete release date yet, but it’s set to launch in 2018 for major home consoles.
