Last week Bandai Namco did a little teasing for a soon to be announced upcoming game with the somewhat familiar tagline “Prepare to Dine.”   Today we learn that the title has been revealed in Famitsu as Code Vein, an Action RPG from the makers of God Eater.

Bandai Namco used the hash tag prepare to dine, which gave us some clues as to what the game would be about, but the article confirms that this is a brand new game and series.  It’s described as a “hard Action RPG,” by translations of the magazine.  In Code Vein, players will control of vampires with supernatural abilities, called Revenants.

Some of the details from the magazine suggest an interesting premise for a vampire game that seem somewhat fresh, like players needing to search for blood or face being transformed into monsters.  From the sounds of it, Code Vein will be a melee combat focused title with players using items like Swords, spears, and other to dispatch enemies.  The report also reveals some of the key gameplay mechanics for Code Vein, which include some of the special abilities of the character.

Players use a unique piece of equipment called Blood Veil to suck blood from The Lost, and as players do this it sounds like their appearance will change.  Blood Smelting is another mechanic which has players using blood from enemies to empower themselves, make enemies weaker, or use the bodily fluid to be used for attacks.

According to the translation, Code Vein is around 35% complete at this point, is set for a 2018 release, with a new trailer to generate hype for the game in the near future.

Taking a look at the original teaser, I guess it does seem to make sense.
