EA has recently revealed new sales numbers for current generation consoles, which show numbers that continue to solidify the fact that the future of console remains in very good shape. They announced that combined sales for the PS4 and Xbox One are at 60 million units.
The news was revealed by EA CFO Blake Jorgensen at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference. This is up 5 million units from the previous reports that had the combined sales of both consoles at 55 million in January of this year. The combined console sales for the PS3 and Xbox 360 are over 150 million, as well.
Elsewhere at the conference Jorgensen talks a little about the future of VR and EA’s involvement with the technology, revealing that they aren’t fully committed to developing for VR yet. They claim that they will begin with making “vignette-style” games, and if the market for it gets big enough then they will start talking about developing $50-$100 million VR games.
It was also revealed that about 25% of all EA games are full game downloads, with Jorgensen saying that they want to continue strong relations with retailers but also understand the trend of the digital future of media consumption.
