It’s not terribly surprising that the launch of DC Universe Online on the Xbox One is experiencing long queue times. That is fairly standard for the launch of any MMORPG as interested players jump into give the game a try. Still, Daybreak Game Studios is well aware of the wait and is adding capacity to address the issue.
When DC Universe Online launched Friday, queues quickly filled up to over 8,000 players waiting to get in the free queue. The subscriber queue was fattened by Daybreak allowing free players into that queue the first time. This made the subscriber queue wait as long or longer as the free queue wait, but the wait time is almost instant as of early Sunday afternoon on the East Coast. However, the free queue waiting time is now 10,000 players deep with a wait time of almost two hours.
Servers for Xbox one were taking offline early Sunday morning to perform a hardware upgrade and increase capacity, but it’s obviously not enough yet. Daybreak plans to add more capacity per a post in the DC Universe Online forums.
Both US and EU Xbox One servers will have extended downtime tomorrow morning during the regular daily restart window of 4AM PT and 4AM CET. The usual restart time will be extended to about two hours while we add additional hardware that will increase our overall population capacity on both servers.
Even with this increase, we will still expect free players to queue during prime time, and we are still working on acquiring additional hardware to further expand capacity. Thank you for your patience and for participating in our Xbox One Launch.
The additional hardware will be added Monday morning, per a Twitter post from the official DCUO account with the goal of no queue existing for players to get in to play.
