‘Die by the sword’: Musk goes on a posting rampage after report details potential congressional probes if Democrats flip the House or Senate

Democrats are reportedly eyeing DOGE agency shutdowns

Elon Musk spent Wednesday posting replies and comments on X after a Politico story laid out how House Democrats could open investigations into him if they win control of the House or the Senate. The piece, published Tuesday afternoon under the headline “Capitol agenda: Dem gavels are coming for Elon Musk,” focused on his role at the Department of Government Efficiency.

According to the report, Democrats are interested in reviewing decisions made while Musk led DOGE, including the shutdown of agencies that Congress had required and funded. The story also said lawmakers would likely examine claims that Musk recently restricted Starlink service in Ukraine, plus questions about possible conflicts of interest involving SpaceX, Tesla, and large federal contracts and subsidies.

Musk shared the Politico article on X and wrote, “Live by the sword, die by the sword. Those who pick fights with me should understand that I will find out who is really pulling the strings and come for them, not just their puppets …”

He also circulated a clip from an interview Kara Swisher gave to The Bulwark. In the segment, Swisher said, “Under Kamala Harris, he might be in jail right now, right? He is correct. And that’s not because she’s some avenging fury; it’s because there’s a lot of questions around different companies of his. If Donald Trump loses the House and the Senate, I would worry. I’d be worried if I were him, you know, no matter how rich he is.”

Swisher went on, “There were all these agencies, some of which he put a knife in and killed in the DOGE, many of whom are investigating him. He stopped, like, a half a dozen investigations of his various companies. So they’re gonna start investigating again. You think he’s not on the list? He’s at the top of that list.”

“Donald Trump obviously is at the top in his family. But Elon Musk is right up there for that. And you have to, he knows what’s coming. Like, he’s stupid, like, of all the many things you can say about him is he has a very big sense of fate, and I think it’s coming for him and real hard,” she added.

Musk, who has been accused of manipulating the 2024 election, answered the clip with the message, “Live by the sword, die by the sword. Sounds like Swisher really wants to go to prison.”

In another post, he wrote, “Some fools still think the legacy news is real. Amazing.” Alexander Ward, a national security reporter at The Wall Street Journal, replied, “Sir, is this your comment to our story?” and attached the Journal’s article titled “Musk Ordered Starlink Slowdown That Blindsided Ukraine.”

Musk has said the disruption that affected Ukraine last week was caused by the U.S. military and ultimately by President Trump. He explained that the military system known as Starshield is owned and run by the government. He later posted, “Any limits on speed or usage are decided by the US military and ultimately POTUS.”

He also wrote, “Starlink is a commercial service owned and controlled by SpaceX. Usage of Starlink is limited to civilian or defensive activities and cannot be used for offensive military action, as doing so would be inappropriate for a commercial company.”

Across other messages on Wednesday, Musk directed criticism at James Talarico, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Texas. Reports have indicated that Musk has put more than $150 million into efforts opposing Talarico.
