President Donald Trump has turned against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican who used to be one of his biggest supporters. Over the weekend, Trump called Greene a “Republican in Name Only” and a “Fake politician” in angry posts on social media.
The split between them is a huge change. On Friday, Trump took back his support for Greene and said he might help someone else run against her in the next election, as per The Hill. This surprised a lot of people because Greene was always one of Trump’s strongest defenders when he was president before and when he ran for office again in 2024.
The fight seems to be about Greene wanting to release files about Jeffrey Epstein. Greene was one of four Republicans who signed a petition trying to get the Justice Department to make all the documents about Epstein public. Trump didn’t want this to happen, but Greene went ahead anyway. On Saturday, Greene said she “never thought that fighting to release the Epstein files, defending women who were victims of rape, and fighting to expose the web of rich powerful elites would have caused this.”
Things got personal real fast
Trump didn’t hold back when he went after Greene. On Truth Social, he said Greene “betrayed the entire Republican Party when she turned Left, performed poorly on the pathetic View, and became the RINO that we all know she always was.” He even made fun of her name, calling her “Marjorie Taylor Brown” and saying something about green grass turning brown when it starts to rot. Greene’s time on the talk show had gotten people talking because of how surprisingly nice she acted.
This week, House Democrats and a Republican-led committee put out new files about the Epstein case. The papers had emails that seem to show Trump knew more about Epstein’s crimes with young girls than he said before. Trump says this isn’t true and told the Justice Department to look into how Democrats knew Epstein instead.
Greene has also disagreed with Trump about other things. She spoke out against his decisions to send help to Israel and Ukraine during their wars. She posted a picture on social media proving she never got any money from AIPAC, a group that supports Israel. Greene thinks someone might be pushing Trump hard about the Epstein files. She’s been talking a lot lately about making sure Americans come first.
Even though Trump said such mean things, Greene was nice in her response. She wrote online that she forgives Trump and will pray for him to go back to what he promised when he first ran for president. But Trump hit back again by calling her “Marjorie Traitor Green” and saying she’s “a disgrace to our GREAT REPUBLICAN PARTY.” Greene said Trump made a “huge miscalculation” when he tried to pressure Republicans to ignore the whole Epstein situation.
