Donald Trump rally attendee hits a protester in Clemson, South Carolina. Then the president points to the man and says: ‘He got whacked!’

He compared the attendee to Evander Holyfield

A rally in Clemson, South Carolina, on Wednesday saw President Donald Trump deal with repeated interruptions from hecklers. The president is in the state to back the campaign of Sen. Darline Graham, a Republican. Security stepped in at different points to remove people who called out while he was speaking.

According to Mediaite, early on, Trump described the people interrupting him as “paid protesters.” He added that they “go home and mom slaps them around.” When another voice cut in, he paused and said, “What was that noise I just heard? You know, you like just to power through that stuff, but that was a loud, horrible, disgusting sound. I didn’t know what was wrong with that person.”

Later, a third interruption arrived while Trump was discussing the late Sen. Lindsey Graham and his sister. He reacted by saying, “It’s always right at my punchline! They time ’em beautifully. These people are serious losers.” After more people were escorted out, Trump told the crowd, “Most of them are from different parts of the country, by the way. They’re not from here. It’s all paid for. They’re a bunch of fakers. They’re terrible people.”

A punch interrupts Trump’s remarks on immigration

The moment that drew the strongest reaction from the president came while he was talking about immigration. A man supporting Trump appeared to strike a protester. Trump immediately responded, “Wow, thank you! That was great.” Officers moved in quickly to restrain the supporter who had thrown the punch. They then led the protester out of the venue. The person who hit the protester stayed inside.

Trump kept going after the scuffle. He said, “Wow. Man, I love – I watched that. That was unbelievable. Is everybody okay? Who’s the guy that threw that punch? Who threw that punch?” Evander Holyfield, the former professional boxer, was in attendance at the event. Trump brought him into the exchange while asking who had thrown the punch.

The president had also been interrupted in his previous midterm rallies. In Texas, hecklers interrupted him at least a dozen times.

He continued, “Who was the guy that threw the punch? You reminded me of Evander ‘The Real Deal’ Holyfield. No, the guy stood up, and he just let that little – and he got whacked! Man! They don’t realize it’s really dangerous to do that. You gotta give ’em credit. It takes courage to do that at a Trump rally. He got whacked! He started that, you know, screech. Whatever the hell they do, and as he’s in the process of the screech, he got whacked! Evander, he wants your autograph, that man.”

Trump described watching the punch land as the protester made a sound. He asked the crowd whether everyone was all right after it happened. The protester was taken out while the supporter who struck him remained in place. The president’s comments centered on what he saw and on the actions of both people involved.

The rally went on after the removals and the brief physical exchange. Trump’s remarks about the punch came during his comments on immigration. He singled out the man who threw the punch and described the protester getting hit in the middle of making noise. Those words were spoken directly to the audience at the Clemson venue.
