The DOOM series has been around for a long time, serving as one of the innovators of the FPS genre way back in the day. The series has disappointed in more recent years, but there is a lot of hype surrounding the upcoming reboot. In preparation for the release in 2016, they are holding an Alpha test this weekend and codes are starting to go out right now.
According to the official DOOM Twitter, invites for the first closed Alpha were being sent earlier today, and this was confirmed by numerous posters on NeoGAF who said that they got theirs already.
Back when Wolfenstein: The New Order released last year, the first run copies of the game came with an exclusive code to sign up for the DOOM beta. However, this is actually the step before that with the Alpha, but it sounds like that’s how people are getting invited regardless.
Those who pre-ordered or bought Wolfenstein: The New Order prior to May 26 of last year were eligible for the beta, though retail had to enter a code. If you did not enter that code, you still can and hopefully get in on this round or perhaps future Alpha and Beta rounds of testing.
If you already did this in the past, make sure to keep an eye out on your email to see if you got one. Some that did enter it already said they had not received one, so this first Alpha test may be only for the first ones to have entered their code last year.
For the lucky ones chosen, the Alpha will fun this weekend from Friday through Sunday and will include 6 weapons and equipment items along with one map (Heatwave), one mode (6v6 Team Deathmatch), one power weapon (Gauss Cannon), and one demon (Revenant).
