While it was previously reported by Nintendo that a remake of Dragon Quest 8 would be coming to the 3DS by the end of this year, it appears that that is no longer the case. The company revealed during their Nintendo Direct show that the game is now slated to come out in 2017, though an official release date was not provided.
Dragon Quest 8: The Journey of the Cursed King originally launched for the PlayStation 2 in 2005, and is considered by many to be the best game in the series. The game has since made its way to other platforms like iOS and Android, and the 3DS version of the game is currently available in Japan.
However, there is some good news for Dragon Quest fans, as Dragon Quest 7 is still slated to launch later this month. That game is called Fragments of the Forgotten Past, which is currently available for pre-order and includes a free 3DS theme with purchase.
While these Dragon Quest games will be mobile-only affairs, the tenth game in the series is also set to come to PlayStation 4, PC and Nintendo NX alongside mobile platforms. A release date for that game has not been revealed.
