A preview build for EA Sports UFC 2 revealed the fighter rating for CM Punk. This caused quite a storm in the MMA community. EA Sports has confirmed that the ratings have not been finalized yet.

The EA Sports UFC Twitter page said: “Don’t get too excited about the rumored #EASPORTSUFC2 fighter ratings! We’re still finalizing & haven’t announced anything yet. Stay tuned.”

The controversy only arose because MMA fans disliked that CM Punk had a preliminary rating of 85 in EA Sports UFC 2. People thought the rating was too high for someone that has yet to fight in the sport.

CM Punk tweeted on the naysayers by saying people will be surprised when he debuts in UFC the same way people were shocked when Samus was revealed to be a woman in the first Metroid game.

Reportedly, CM Punk’s first MMA fight in UFC will occur in February. EA Sports UFC 2 releases in March so EA Sports should have enough time to actually give him a proper rating.

It will be interesting to see how CM Punk fares inside the octagon. Unlike Brock Lesnar who was a famous amateur wrestler, CM Punk has not competed in any combat sports before. It remains to be seen if all his training paid off.
