Evolve, an upcoming sci-fi themed 4v1 shooter in development by Turtle Rock Studios, with publisher 2K Games and distributor Take Two Interactive, has come out of Gamescom 2014 way ahead of the pack. This is most likely good news for Crytek, as Evolve runs on CryEngine. Hopefully for them, the use of their engine in a game that has come up trumps for five of the thirteen official Gamescom 2014 awards will give them the shovel they need to dig out of the well documented hole they have found themselves in. This is the most awards a single game has ever won at a Gamescom show.

It’s certainly good news for everyone involved with the game. Phil Robb, co-founder and creative director at Turtle Rock Studios had this to say after receiving the news (source) – “We are blown away by the positive reception for Evolve from both the critics and the consumers here at Gamescom. Winning the ‘Best of Show’ award at both E3 and Gamescom in the same year is humbling and exhilirating.”

2K’s President Christoph Hartmann chimed in “It’s encouraging to see the level of excitement for Evolve rise constantly. The team at Turtle Rock Studios is creating something very special with this new IP that we believe will deliver one of the most unique and engaging next-gen experiences early next year.”

As reported on Take-Two Interactive’s website, Evolve won five awards at the show including – Best Of Gamescom, Best Console Game Microsoft Xbox, Best PC Game, Best Action Game & Best Online Multiplayer Game.

We’ve been looking for a next gen game to launch this generation of consoles – is Evolve the one to do it? Given the strong reception it has received from games conferences, the fact they are setting a trend with this unique 4v1 formula and that it won’t be available on PS3 and Xbox 360, I’d wager it will have a big part to play in giving this generation that boost it needs to truly define itself.
