EA Sports presented earlier this week a new trailer of FIFA 18 which introduced Cristiano Ronaldo as its cover player. While the video showcased footage built with the game engine used for the PS4 version, a more detailed analysis of the credits has revealed some disappointing information about the version of the game releasing on Nintendo Switch.
First of all, the Nintendo Switch version will be built with an entirely different engine from the PS4, Xbox One, and PC version, as the credits specifically say that the Frostbite engine is exclusive to those platforms. That implies that the Nintendo Switch version will be built using the same tools as the PS3 and Xbox 360 ports, which will obviously showcase a big difference in graphics.
Moreover, the disclaimer at the end of the trailer also says that the story mode The Journey: Hunter Returns will also be exclusive to PS4, Xbox One, and PC, which may indicate that the game mode is too demanding to be made with an inferior engine.
This is the exact text of the disclaimer: “Frostbite game engine technology and The Journey: Hunter Returns mode are available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC platform versions only. Not all features available on all platforms.”
EA has still not shown footage of the Nintendo Switch version of FIFA 18, but it is expected to launch at the same time than the rest of platforms on September 29th. Going by the information we have received so far, we should expect it to look very similar to the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.
