The Tomb Raider franchise has definitely gone through some major changes over the years. Starting off more puzzle based, the series got a very well received reboot in 2013 that also received a critically acclaimed sequel. Due to this success, Hollywood naturally wanted to reboot the Tomb Raider movie franchise as well and after getting leaked set pictures before, we have our first official look at Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft in the upcoming movie.

These pictures come courtesy of Vanity Fair, who has a first look at the movie. As we saw in the previously leaked set pictures, Vikander looks very much like the Lara Croft of the reboot series, with the outfit she is wearing being an almost replica of the one in the first reboot game.

On top of the pictures, they were also able to speak with Vikander about the role as well.

“When I was asked to take on this role I got really excited—Lara Croft is a truly iconic character. I think people can identify with her for lots of different reasons, but for me I very much see her as a model for many young women. She’s trying to carve out her place in the world and connect her future with her past. She also has a fantastic mix of traits—tough, smart, vulnerable, plus she’s kick ass! She is also uniquely different to other characters I have taken on previously. It’s a lot of fun trying to get into Lara’s head and the challenge of getting to grips with such a physical role is an element of this project that I find an absolute thrill.”

Tomb Raider is being directed by Roar Uthaug and also stars Dominic West, Walton Goggins, and Daniel Wu alongside Vikander, with it set to be released on March 16, 2018.
