The promotional campaign for the new Tomb Raider movie adaptation is finally starting this week, with all the social media accounts of the film sharing the first official poster of the production. Alicia Vikander plays the lead role in this new version, which is based on the popular 2013 videogame reboot released by Square Enix. The image contains clear references to that entry including the character’s outfit, her climbing axe, and the island setting.
Additionally, Warner Bros has also shared a short clip teasing the release of the first full trailer for tomorrow. Both promotional pieces make clear that this new Lara Croft is very different to the version portrayed by Angelina Jolie in 2001 and 2003. Vikander’s portrayal stays faithful to the 2013 game by being more vulnerable, less glamurous, and showcasing raw emotions.
The movie will be inspird on the plot of the videogame, with a young Lara learning the basic knowledge to survive in the wild after the boat of her expedition crashes near a mysterious island that is nowhere as abandoned as it seems. This is the official synopsis of the movie, via IMDb: “Lara Croft, the fiercely independent daughter of a missing adventurer, must push herself beyond her limits when she finds herself on the island where her father disappeared.”
The new Tomb Raider movie premieres on March 2018. Stay tuned for the first trailer coming tomorrow, and check out the poster below.
